What goes on behind the scenes of a beautiful ballet dance? Principal dancers from Ballet Philippines Candice Adea and Jean Marc “JM” Cordero practices rigourously for their semi-finals with coach Victor Ursabia at the 7th Helsinki International Ballet Competition.

“I think they ( Candice Adea and Jean Marc) have a very strong possibility to be on the top of this competition,” Pirjo Sohlo from Circo Aereo is a volunteer for 7th Helsinki International Ballet Competition.

44 reached the semi-finals in the Helsinki Ballet Competition to be held on June 1, 2012
The following 6 Finnish dancers qualified for the second part of the competition: Maria Baranova, Tuomas Haukka, Suvi Honkanen, Emilia Karmitsa, Emmi Pennanen and Piia Sundqvist.
The seventh Helsinki International Ballet Competition began with three days of preliminary rounds. The total of 69 dancers from 28 countries, 37 juniors and 32 seniors, performed either two variations of classical ballet or a pas de deux.
44 dancers qualified for the semi-finals which will be held on 2-3th of June. In the semi-finals qualified dancers will perform a contemporary choreography.
- We had very similar thoughts among the panel of the judges. We are thrilled about the engagement the young dancers have, Kenneth Greve, the Artistic Director of the Finnish National Ballet and the chair of the international panel of judges said after the results were announced.
The finals will be held on 5-6th of June. The winners of the Helsinki International Ballet Competition will be announced at the Gala on 7th of June, where the most successful dancers will perform. 
Competition is hosted by the Finnish National Opera.
